U.S Government Shutdown October 2013: Reaction Paper Sample

U.S Government Shutdown October 2013: Reaction Paper Sample

As an explanation  given by the  In U.S. politics, a government shutdown is a situation in which Congress fails to pass authorization for sufficient funds for government operations. Typically, the government stops providing all but "essential" services at first, but since Congress must authorize all expenditures, there is no law protecting any government service from stoppage. Federal services that may continue for a time after a shutdown include the National Weather Service and its parent agencies, medical services at federal facilities, armed forces, air traffic management, and corrections (the penal system).

The United States federal government shutdown of 2013 is ongoing, having begun on 1 October 2013. The primary issue of dispute between the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and the Democrat-controlled Senate (the latter supported by President Obama) is the Republicans' desire to delay implementation of the Affordable Care Act, signed into law in 2010.

My little understanding of the US Government Shut Down , is inessential as of the moment . It is really  so obvious that the Republicans for which of course is the majority group in the Congress     is  delaying or preventing the implementation of the Obamacare as reports would call it or the Affordable Care Act .

Government shutdown , would eventually mean a high impact on the US Economy . Many scholars and political experts would unanimously say that it has a big risk on Obama’s presidency . “Generally speaking, the shutdown hurts everyone,” says Peter Hanson, a political scientist at the University of Denver. “So its major effect is that it will frustrate the public. They will simply blame Washington, which means it will hurt both Congress and the president.”

It is very clear then , that the public will suffer . We can’t deny the fact that even in well-developed countries as in the United States  , still political disputes affect the nation’s economy or  the nation as a whole . At the end of the line the one that suffers is the powerless citizenry .Sometimes , unity and unified governance may be the most powerful tool in giving the best services to the people , which in a democratic form of government must be given the full power  and authority . But sad to note , that this may be impossible .

Yet , as I was reading papers and  press releases online while doing this reaction paper , I was  touched and admired Obama for his statement “They've shut down the government over an ideological crusade to deny affordable health insurance to millions of Americans,” Obama said. “In other words, they demanded ransom just for doing their job.” Great .. The US has a president as determined and as strong as Obama .. His presidency was never trembled by the shutdown . In fact , with limited resources , he still continued with the implementation of the Affordable Care Act.

Then , I thought of the Philippines , in the midst of the controversy of PDAF , blaming one another . pointing fingers on each other ,,, is the ransom not enough ?

“To the extent Obama faces a risk, it’s the long-run risk to his political legacy,” by not focusing on entitlements, especially Medicare, says Mr. Primo. “He’s standing by and letting the kids in Congress fight over nothing, essentially. The health-care law is here to stay, so all of this is a political sideshow.”

Truly , the impact of the shutdown may be how the world sees the Obama administration . He may be tagged as a weak and inefficient leader , just letting the Congress to fight against nothing , because even with the Shutdown , the Obama care is a law and will be implemented . A shutdown that drags on could take a toll on employment and economic growth, never good for a president.

But for me , I don’t see it against Obama only , I see it against the Congress . It is already a law ,, It has to be implemented . If they disagree on certain issues of the Health Care , they should take time to sit down and come up with a better solution than a shutdown if they truly care for the American people .
